To analyze the medicinal properties of the bark of Voacanga africana in Chinese medicine and provide a theoretical basis for its introduction into China as an exotic medicinal herb,facilitating its combination with traditional Chinese herbs.Methods:Scientific journal databases were used for literature retrieval.Relevant literature was included,excluded,classified,and statistically analyzed.The medicinal properties of the bark of V.africana were explored based on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) theories,and relevant historical applications,chemical components,and pharmacological activities were summarized and analyzed.Results:The bark of V.africana from the Apocynaceae family has medicinal properties characterized as bitter and sweet in flavor,and cool in nature,and acts on the spleen,stomach,heart,and liver meridians.It has the functions of clearing heat,drying dampness,removing toxin,stopping dysentery,calming the mind,stopping spasms,and relieving pain,and can be used for conditions such as heat-toxic dysentery,chronic dysentery,mental dullness and forgetfulness,epigastric pain,testicular swelling and pain,dysmenorrhea,traumatic injuries,and convulsions.It is used in decoction at recommended dosage of 10 to 25 g/day,and is non-toxic.Conclusion:The study attributes medicinal properties to the bark of V.africana,providing a theoretical foundation for its introduction into TCM clinical practice and its combination with other Chinese herbs,and it is significant for enriching Chinese medicinal resources and promoting the sustainable development of TCM. |
