| The fresh stems,branches,and fruits with leaves of (Viscum album L.)in the family Santalaceae are medicinal parts and V.album is not distributed in China.Widely used in Europe for cancer treatment,V.album is listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States and German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia.Currently,Helixor A injection,mainly derived from V.album extract,has been imported into China as a natural medicine for clinical use,primarily in adjunctive therapy for lung cancer,breast cancer,and ovarian cancer.By summarizing and analyzing scientific research literature on V.album and in combination with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) theory,this study explored its medicinal properties.Through classified investigation on active ingredients,clinical applications,pharmacological effects,etc.of V.album,it is concluded that V.album has pharmacological effects such as anticancer properties,improving quality of life in cancer patients,lowering blood sugar,reducing blood pressure,antioxidative effects,and antiepileptic effects.Based on its clinical applications,usage,and TCM theory,V.album is characterized with the following properties：neutral in nature and sweet in flavor,and acting on the liver,kidney,and spleen meridians.It has functions include removing toxin,dissipating masses,pacifying liver,subduing yang,replenishing qi,and nourishing yin,and can be used to treat abdominal mass,ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang,epilepsy,thirst due to fluid damage,and internal heat with thirst.For preparation as a medicinal product(subcutaneous injection),it is recommended to start with 1 mL of 0.000 1 mg and adjust the frequency of injections weekly based on the patient's condition. |
