To statistically analyze and evaluate the modern research and comprehensive application of non-medicinal parts of Chinese medicines in the 2020 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China(hereinafter referring to Chinese Pharmacopoeia),providing data support for further research and development of non-medicinal parts. Methods:Based on the records of Chinese medicines and their medicinal parts in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia,non-medicinal parts were selected from the Dictionary of Chinese Medicine. The origin, chemical composition, pharmacological effects, and clinical applications of non-medicinal parts of Chinese medicines were statistically analyzed, with frequency analysis conducted. Results:A total of 196 Chinese medicines possess non-medicinal parts. These medicines predominantly belong to the Asteraceae,Rosaceae, and Leguminosae families.Non-medicinal parts are most commonly the root, leaf, and flower.Chemical components are primarily flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and volatile oils. The most frequent pharmacological actions include antioxidant,anti-tumor,and anti-inflammatory effects.Clinically, they are mainly used in the treatment of diseases in gastroenterology, dermatology, and neurology. Conclusion:China has abundant non-medicinal resources, and the potential and developmental value of non-medicinal parts of Chinese medicines are enormous. However, there is a lack of modern research, and the development and utilization of most non-medicinal parts have not yet formed an industrial model. It is essential to strengthen modern research and comprehensive application of non-medicinal parts, establish quality standards for non-medicinal parts of Chinese medicines, improve the industry chain, and promote the high-quality development of non-medicinal Chinese medicinal resources. |
