To observe efficacy of Wenfei Pingchuan Granule on top of Guben Wenfei Plaster on acute onset of bronchial asthma (TCM pattern: cold wheezing). Methods:Sixty patients with bronchial asthma were randomized to treatment group (n=30) and control group (n=30). In the 10 day treatment phase, the control group took inhaled budesonide inhalation and theophylline sustained-release tablets. The treatment group was given Wenfei Pingchuan Granule and Guben Wenfei Plaster. Primary end point included clinical efficacy, lung function FEV1%, ACT scores, and syndromes scores. Results:Total effective rate of treatment group equaled 93.3%, total effective rate of control group was 86.7%, no significant difference (P>0.05). After treatment both groups increased significantly with FEV1%, ACT scores and syndromes scores (P<0.05), The post-treatment FEV1%, ACT scores were not significantly different between groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: Wenfei Pingchuan Granule on top of Guben Wenfei Plaster can treat acute onset of bronchial asthma and improve lung function.
