To observe and analyze effects of acupuncture by stage on peripheral facial paralysis patients . Methods: From August 2009 to February 2011， 50 cases with acute peripheral facial paralysis were randomly divided into A and B two groups， with 25 cases in each group.Patients in group A was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion by stage， while group B was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion at acute stage.The effect of acupuncture and moxibustion by stage in treating peripheral facial paralysis was observed and analyzed statistically.Results:seventeen cases were cured (68%)，6 cases had significant effect (24%) ， 2 cases were effective (8%) in group A，and the total effective rate of group A was 100% in group A ; 15 cases were cured(60% )， 8 cases had significant effect (32%)， 2 cases were effective (8%) in group B，and the total efficiency of group B was 100% . Compared to group B， the cure rate of group A was higher.There was no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion:The effect of acupuncture and moxibustion by stage in treating peripheral facial paralysis was significant ， early intervention on prognosis may be more beneficial .
