The study of peripheral vascular disease was developed with the beginning of integrative treatment of Buerger in the 1950s in China. Without any record from ancient literature, the professional development of peripheral vascular disease is the best examples of innovative applications of traditional Chinese medicine theory integrate with western medicine. Based on clinical experience, this article summed up the four parts of overall syndrome in modern peripheral vascular disease: combination of disease and syndrome differentiation; combination of overall syndrome and partial differentiation; combination of macro syndrome and microcosmic syndrome; treatment based on pathomechanism. The four parts are extension and expansion of connotations of TCM holistic syndrome, as well as being significant in enriching peripheral vascular disease in the modern theoretical system.
