Through studies on literatures, this paper introduces the origin, development and ideas on the concept of toxic Chinese materia medica, and the grading standard and history of “very toxic, toxic, and little toxic”. Also, it compares the advantages and disadvantages of the grading methods of the ancient and modern times.
