To analyze the therapeutic effect of yiqihuoxuebushen (boosting the qi and quickening the blood) drugs in diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients, and to explore its mechanism. Methods： Eighty cases of DN patients were divided into the treatment group and the control group, 40 cases in each. Patients in the control group were given conventional western medicine treatment, and the observation group applied extra Yiqihuoxuebushen decoction. Treatment condition were compared between two groups. Results： The total effective rate in treatment group was 85% which was significantly higher than that of the control group (50%) (P<0.05). The improvement of urinary protein, fasting blood glucose (FPG), 2h postprandial plasma glucose (2 hPG), systolic pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) after treatment in the treatment group were significantly better than those in the control group (P<0.05). The improvement of albuminuria after treatment in the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion： Yiqihuoxuebushen type of Chinese medicine can improve the curative effect of DN, and its mechanism of action may be related to reducing urinary protein, blood sugar and blood pressure, so as to protect the kidney.
