This paper discusses the name of TCM disease from the ancient books. The incidence of FD is related to the diet and the external pathogens and the mental factors. The main site affected was the spleen and the liver. The main pathogenesis of functional dyspepsia is liver qi stagnation, spleen deficiency and stomach qi did not fall. The research on the evolution of FD pathogenesis is insufficient. The treatment of FD can be based on syndrome differentiation, or special medicine for special methods, or combination of syndrome differentiation with disease differentiation. However there is lack of coherent and effective evaluation system, and a lack of attention to the quality of patients’ life.
