To analyze the characteristics of Tongxie Yaofang in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome by the measurement of bibliometrics and to predict the development trend in order to provide reference for the clinical and scientific study on TCM treatment of IBS. Methods:We determined retrieval strategy according to inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, then selected references which met the requirements. By using mathematical and statistical methods we analyzed the accumulative literature volume, number of papers published in a journal, journal location, core journals, research classification, etc. Results:From November 1996 to November 2014, there were 308 relevant articles in total with an upward trend; effect observation of clinical effect had the largest percentage (94.8%); and Tongxie Yaofang therapy account for 47.73% of the total interventional measures; literature published location are imbalanced, and focused on a few journals which become the core journal of this research area. Conclusion:The growth trend of journal literature of this study field has been steady, but the paper quality is not high, therefore we should conduct more randomized controlled trials more rigorously and strengthen the mechanism research to raise the research and publication level.
