The term “life gate” derives from Huangdi’s Internal Classic, and later scholars added more meanings and created life-gate theory on the basis of it. In this progress, focuses have been put on the relationship between life gate and kidney. The article found out that these developments and debates have great contribution on the doctrine of organ manifestations through looking into academic thoughts of three different ages.
