The Dong-zhen Chapter on Taoist Canon collected 326 books related with Taoism. And 35 of them involve the prescriptions and Chinese medicinals, which is very unique in Taoist canon. The Dong-zhen of Taoist canon contains 14 kinds of prescriptions, 186 kinds of medicinals. And the prescriptions can be divided into two parts, which are treating disease medicine and health preservation medicine; the medicinals can be categorized as four parts, which are herbs, stone, animal, and other classes. By reviewing the literatures of the Dong-zhen Chapter of Taoist canon, this essay summarizes the characteristics of the formula and medicinals, and shows the contemporary value of the literature so as to provide ideas and methods of the contemporary studies for traditional Chinese medicine.
