Abstract:Based on the analysis and summary of thinking and ideas in acupuncts selection in ancient and modern literatures and combined with results from modern acupuncture experiments, this article is to present the thinking of “three-dimension & tense ” in choosing acupoints——the symptoms as the starting points and analogous acupoints with the study of both ancient and modern literatures. Combining the cause and mechanism of disease (Point), the meridian tropism (Line), location of disease (Plane) and nature of disease (Tense), analogous acupoints are chosen as the main points which are the commonly used while the assisting acupoints are chosen due to its meridian, location and nature. This thinking of acupoint compatibility is in accordance with the basic law of clinic use, which may have certain significance in guiding clinical practice.
