Constipation is a common clinical disease which is specifically discussed in Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases in over seventy pieces, which reveals Zhang Zhongjing’s eminent techniques in treating constipation. Constipation can be treated according to various meridians such as Taiyang Meridian, Yangming Meridian, Shaoyang Meridian, Taiyin Meridian, Shaoyin Meridian and Jueyin Meridian. Different treatments shall be applied due to different etiology and pathogenesis. This article is to analyze treatment for constipation from the perspective of six meridians in Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases. By identifying and analyzing syndromes and symptoms of constipation, it may provide guidance and references for making the full use of classical prescription to improve clinical the treatment of constipation.
