There are lots of diagnostic and therapeutic methods in the Inner Cannon of Huangdi,especially the external therapies,which are simple,convenient and valid,such as acupuncture and moxibustion,tuina,bianshi etc.However,there are some faults in the existing documents about external therapies in the Inner Cannon of Huangdi,which include vague classification,incomplete description and shallow theory.Attempting to refine the study of the Inner Cannon of Huangdi,promote the standard process of Chinese medicine and guide the practice,this article summarized 12 external therapies (7 herbals,5 apparatus) in the Inner Cannon of Huangdi.Most of apparatus external therapies became extinct as time goes by,and other external ones cannot be applied adequately.However,theory recorded in the Inner Cannon of Huangdi is important to the development of surgery,which physicians ought to follow so as to create more effective methods.
