To investigate the effects of Biyuan tongqiao granules on chronic sinusitis and its effects on nasal ciliary transmission. Methods:A total of 300 cases were selected, who resided in auricular nasal pharyngeal department and were diagnosed as chronic rhinosinusitis complying with the absorbing standards. And they were divided them into control group and test group, with 150 cases in each group. The control group received regular clarithromycin treatment and the test group got Biyuan tongqiao granules. A total of 2 weeks were a treatment period. All received 1 treatment period. After the treatment, the symptoms including nasal chocking, rhinorrhea, snivel afterward spillage and dysosmia, life quality score, transmission function of nasal cilium were compared. Results:Compared with before treatment, score of each symptom and total symptom score of the 2 groups were decreased after treatment (P<0.01); compared with the control group, the runny nose, stuffy nose, nose, leakage, smell symptoms and symptom score of the test group decreased significantly (P<0.05 or P<0.01). After treatment, the scores of 4 aspects of SNOT-20 scale in the 2 groups were significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.01), and the test group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.01). Compared with before treatment, nasal mucociliary transport of the 2 groups were increased after the treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the test group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). The efficient proportion was 75.5% in the test group, and the control group was 64.7%. The efficient proportion of the test group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion:Biyuan tongqiao granules can not only improve the clinical symptoms of patients with chronic sinusitis, but also improve the patient's sense of smell, improve the quality of life of patients.
