To observe the effect of modified Banxia Houpo Decoction on gastrointestinal function and pulmonary function in elderly patients with pulmonary heart disease in the acute exacerbation period and gastrointestinal dysfunction.Methods:A total of 82 elderly patients with acute exacerbation and pulmonale and gastrointestinal dysfunction were divided into an observation group and a control group according to the method of random number table，with 41 cases in each group.The control group was given routine clinical treatment.The observation group was treated with modified Banxia Houpo Decoction on the basis of the control group.After treating 2 weeks，the changes of TCM syndrome scores，quality of life scores，lung function index，gastric emptying index and blood biochemical index of the 2 groups before and after treatment were compared，and adverse reactions were recorded.Results:After treatment，the scores of TCM syndromes，the frequency of gastric antrum contraction，the level of blood SS and DAO in the 2 groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05)，which in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05); the index of FEV1/predictive value，FEV1/FVC，gastric half emptying time，the amplitude of gastric antrum contraction，the index of gastric antrum movement and the level of blood MTL in the 2 groups were significantly higher than those before treatment(P<0.05)，which in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).No serious adverse reactions occurred in the 2 groups during the treatment.Conclusion:The application of modified Banxia Houpu Decoction can improve the lung function and gastrointestinal motility of the elderly patients with pulmonary heart disease in the acute exacerbation period and gastrointestinal dysfunction，which is helpful to alleviate the symptoms and promote the recovery of the disease.
