To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in treating female patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) and explore the regulatory effect on serum MDA and T-AOC.Methods:Eighty-six female patients with IBS-D admitted to Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture and Meridian from October 2018 to January 2021 were randomly divided into a warm needle moxibustion group (n=43) and an electro-acupuncture (EA) group (n=43).The patients received warm needle moxibustion therapy or EA therapy at bilateral “Tianshu” (ST 25),“Shangjuxu” (ST 37),and “Sanyinjiao” (SP 6) in both groups, three times a week, four weeks in total. The clinical efficacies of the two groups were evaluated according to the pre-and post-treatment scores of Birmingham IBS Symptom Questionnaire,IBS Symptom Severity Scale,Irritable Bowel Syndrome Quality of Life Instrument (IBS-QOL),Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD),and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA),and the serum levels of MDA and T-AOC were detected. Results:After treatment, the scores of clinical syndrome scale,HAMD,and HAMA in the two groups decreased (P<0.001),and the score of IBS-QOL increased (P<0.001).The warm needle moxibustion group and the EA group showed reduced serum MDA level and increased serum T-AOC level in female patients with IBS-D (P<0.01).Conclusion:Acupuncture and moxibustion can achieve good clinical efficacies in the treatment of female patients with IBS-D,which can significantly improve the quality of life and relieve depression and anxiety of patients, and can regulate the expression levels of oxidative stress-related indicators MDA and T-AOC in the serum.
