Insomnia is a common clinical nervous system disease, which seriously affects people's work efficiency and quality of life.It can be classified into “sleepless” and “restlessness” in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Its common pathogenesis mainly includes yin-yang imbalance, disharmony between nutrient and defensive qi,overacting of five emotions, and disharmony of zang-fu organs. As non-drug therapies, acupuncture and moxibustion have multi-level,multi-target,and multi-system regulatory functions, which can stimulate the meridian qi,dredge meridians and collaterals, activate qi and blood, and regulate yin and yang. The present study retrieved clinical research articles in China and abroad on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of insomnia in the past 5 years, covering acupuncture,electroacupuncture,moxibustion,acupuncture-drug combination and other therapies,as well as acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of primary insomnia, intractable insomnia, perimenopausal insomnia,post-stroke insomnia, senile insomnia and secondary insomnia caused by other diseases. As revealed by the results, acupuncture and moxibustion therapies can significantly relieve the clinical symptoms of insomnia patients and improve the quality of life, with broad application prospects. However, there are also limitations, and the future research direction is prospected to provide references for the scientific research and clinical work of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of insomnia.
