Abstract:This paper introduces Professor Liang Fanrong's academic thoughts and clinical experience in the phased treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with acupuncture and moxibustion based on the muscle meridian theory.Professor Liang believes that facial paralysis is rooted in the greater yang and yang brightness meridians, and meridian disorder is the basic pathogenesis of facial paralysis.According to the different phases of facial paralysis,we start with regulating the meridians. In the acute phase, shallow acupuncture on the meridians is adopted to dispel the pathogen. In the recovery phase,point-through-point acupuncture on the meridians is employed for replenishing qi,nourishing blood, and smoothing meridians. In the sequela phase, superficial acupuncture, row acupuncture, and blade needle therapy are adopted, which are supplemented with meridian kneading for relieving spasm.Different acupuncture techniques, combined therapies,as well as rehabilitation exercises are adopted in different phases.Such phased treatment can improve the clinical efficacy for facial paralysis.
