Phyllanthus emblica is a characteristic medicinal food species in southwest China. At present, the main international reference standards for P.emblica quality control are British Pharmacopoeia,Indian Pharmacopoeia,Hong Kong Standards for Chinese Medicinal Materials, and Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, mainly based on gallic acid and ellagic acid as evaluation indicators. However, polyphenols(ellagitannins),which are the important medicinal substances in P.emblica, have special transformation and transmission rules during storage and processing. The existing quality evaluation methods only use gallic acid and ellagic acid as evaluation indexes, which are difficult to evaluate the quality of P.emblica reasonably and effectively. Therefore, this paper discussed the research ideas and development of P.emblica quality standards based on the mass transfer laws of P.emblica polyphenol components, combined with the current situation of P.emblica applications and existing standards of P.emblica in the pharmacopeia.
