To explore the potential mechanism underlying Houtou Jianweiling Tablets(HTJWL) promoting gastric motility of functional dyspepsia(FD) rats.Methods:A total of 30 male Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into blank group，model group and HTJWL group，with 10 in each group.The model group and the HTJWL group were given tail clamping stimulation to establish FD model.Then the HTJWL group was administrated with HTJWL solution by gavage，while the model group and the blank group were given equal volume of pure water by gavage，once a day.After 7 days of treatment，gastric emptying rate was detected and gastric motility was also tested in vitro through force transducer.The concentrations of brain-gut peptides motilin(MTL) and cholecystokinin(CCK) in rat serum were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)，and the expression of c-kit in stomach was detected by western blot.Results:1) Compared with the blank group，the model group manifested weight loss(P<0.001) and decreased gastric emptying rate and motility index of gastric smooth muscle(P<0.05).Compared with the model group，the HTJWL group gained weight(P<0.001) and had increased gastric emptying rate and motility index of gastric smooth muscle(P<0.01).2) The contents of serum MTL and CCK in the model group was lower than those in the blank group(P<0.05)，while the contents of serum MTL and CCK in the HTJWL group were higher than those in the model group(P<0.05).3) The expression of c-kit in stomach in the HTJWL group was up-regulated compared with that in the blank group and the model group.Conclusion:HTJWL could raise the concentrations of MTL and CCK in the serum of FD model rats，and increase the expression level of c-kit in stomach to promote gastric motility，which might be one of the mechanisms for its treatment of FD.
