To clarify the composition and application of the classic famous prescription Shipi Powder,to provide documentary evidence support for its clinical application in traditional Chinese medicine and theoretical basis for the research and development of compound preparation. Methods:Bibliometric method was used to search ancient books through Chinese Medical Code Database(V5.0) and modern research documents through China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),China Biomedical Database(CBM),and China Science Periodical Database(CSPD),with “实脾散”(Shipi Powder) and “实脾饮”(Shipi Decoction) as key words. The retrieval time was from the inception of the databases to February 2020.References were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results:A total of 89 ancient books were collected, including 26 ancient Chinese medicine books(1 in Song Dynasty,1 in Yuan Dynasty,16 in Ming Dynasty and 8 in Qing Dynasty). There were 19 prescriptions that were consistent with Shipi Powder in this paper in composition, namely Cortex Magnoliae Offcinalis,Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae,Poria,Fructus Chaenomelis,Radix Aucklandiae,Rhizoma Zingiberis,Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata,Semen Arecae,Fructus Tsaoko, and Radix Et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae(10 medicinal herbs in total). There were 20 prescriptions that had same decoction method with Shipi Powder in this paper, that is,using ginger and jujube as extra conducive components during decoction process. The efficacy of Shipi Powder was recorded in 26 ancient Chinese medicine books, and most of them conformed to this paper, that is,“treating yin edema by consolidating the earth(spleen) firstly”.A total of 168 modern research documents were screened, and 37 were finally obtained according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, all of which were the clinical application of Shipi Powder. At present, little is known about the pharmacology and pharmacodynamics of Shipi Powder, and its mechanism of action remains unclear. In modern clinical practice,Shipi Powder has been applied to the treatment of ascites, heart failure, diarrhea, central serous chorioretinopathy, chronic nephritis, erythema nodosum, decompensated cirrhosis, vitamin B1 deficiency in children, chronic bronchitis in the elderly and other diseases. Conclusion:Doctors of past dynasties mostly used original Shipi Powder, and achieved outstanding effect in treating yin edema, while in modern times, the clinical application of the prescription gradually expands, but the disease is usually related to “water, dampness, and phlegm”.Since the mechanism of action of Shipi Powder has been not defined,it is suggested to carry out basic experimental research by network pharmacology,to facilitate the clinical application of Shipi Powder.
