To observe the therapeutic effect and explore the mechanism of acupuncture combined with Chinese massage in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Methods:A total of 120 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy treated in the Department of Orthopedics, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2018 to October 2019 were randomly assigned into control and observation groups(n=60).The control group was treated with Chinese massage, and the observation group with acupuncture+Chinese massage. The treatment lasted for one month. The therapeutic effect, numbness score, neck disability index(NDI),simplified McGill Pain Questionnaire(MPQ) score, serum levels of interleukin-6(IL-6),IL-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),and hemorheological indexes were determined before and after treatment. Results:The observation group had higher response rate than the control group(91.67% vs.73.33%,P<0.05).The treatment in both groups decreased the MPQ,NDI,and numbness scores and the hemorheological indexes(P<0.05),and the decreases were more significant in the observation group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture combined with Chinese massage is effective in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. It can alleviate neck numbness, pain and other symptoms, recover neck function, reduce blood viscosity, and lower serum IL-6,TNF-α,and IL-1β levels.
