To summarize and analyze the main research directions and progress in acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of gastrointestinal diseases based on experimental research articles published between 2016 and 2020.Methods:CNKI，CSPD，CCD，PubMed，and Web of Science were searched to select experimental research articles on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of gastrointestinal diseases based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.The results were subjected to quantitative statistical analysis.Results:In the past five years，experimental research on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of functional gastrointestinal diseases mainly focused on irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia，while organic gastrointestinal diseases mainly focused on ulcerative colitis.Electroacupuncture and moxibustion were the main methods for gastrointestinal diseases，with electroacupuncture being the main intervention for functional gastrointestinal diseases，and moxibustion being the main intervention for organic gastrointestinal diseases.The main acupoints for acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of gastrointestinal diseases were Zusanli(ST 36)，Tianshu(ST 25)，Shangjuxu(ST 37)，and Zhongwan(CV 12).Experimental research on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of functional gastrointestinal diseases focused on gastrointestinal motility，visceral hypersensitivity，and emotion-related mechanisms，while experimental research on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of organic gastrointestinal diseases focused on inflammation and immune-related mechanisms.Conclusion:In the past five years，experimental research on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of functional gastrointestinal diseases mainly focused on electroacupuncture intervention and the study of gastrointestinal motility，visceral hypersensitivity，and emotion-related mechanisms.Experimental research on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of organic gastrointestinal diseases mainly focused on moxibustion intervention and the study of inflammation and immune-related mechanisms.
