Acupuncture and moxibustion have attracted extensive attention from western countries since the eastward transmission of western sciences and aroused two waves of enthusiasm in Europe and the world.From the historical perspective，we compared the spread of acupuncture and moxibustion from China to the world between the two waves of enthusiasm.In the context of accelerated globalization，the international dissemination of acupuncture and moxibustion faces the problems of localized theory，unsound standard system，and marginalization in the world medical system.In view of the above problems，international communicators of acupuncture and moxibustion should focus on popularizing the theory of acupuncture and moxibustion，strengthen the cooperation with international organizations，and play a dominant role in the legislation and standard building of acupuncture and moxibustion.With acupuncture and moxibustion as the vinculum，efforts should be made to improve the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) treatment system and open the international market.On the basis of solving the specific problems in the westward transmission of acupuncture and moxibustion，a new communication system of TCM theory and therapies should be built to improve the international recognition of TCM therapeutic effect and theoretical culture.
