Idea of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in the Treatment of Post-stroke Urinary Incontinence Based on the Theory of Dredging Governor Vessel(GV) and Regulating Conception Vessel(CV)
Stroke is a neurological disease caused by brain blood supply dysfunction.Urinary incontinence,a common complication after stroke,is characterized by unconscious outflow of urine, which seriously affects the life quality and span of the patients.Acupuncture and moxibustion are often used to treat this complication, with remarkable therapeutic effects.According to the circulation and physiological functions of the governor vessel(GV) and conception vessel(CV) in the eight extra meridians, the mechanism of post-stroke urinary incontinence in modern medicine, and the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of post-stroke urinary incontinence by traditional Chinese medicine masters,we explored the theoretical basis of dredging the governor vessel(GV) and regulating the conception vessel(CV) to treat urinary incontinence.By searching relevant literature for exploring the diagnosis and treatment ideas,we found that acupuncture and moxibustion have unique advantages in regulating the governor vessel(GV) and conception vessel(CV).This therapy can tonify deficiency and discharge excess, uplift healthy qi to stop collapse, and warm yang to transform qi.Furthermore,we studied the acupoint selection of acupuncture and moxibustion from three aspects:local point selection, remote point selection, and syndrome differentiation-based point selection and explored the clinical application characteristics of acupuncture and moxibustion. This study provides a theoretical basis for the application of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of post-stroke urinary incontinence and underpins the theoretical and applied research on the governor vessel(GV) and conception vessel(CV).
