The patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) caused by human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) have compromised immunity and are prone to other diseases.Diarrhea,one of the common complications of AIDS,seriously affects the quality of life and endangers the life safety of the patients.In recent years,traditional Chinese medicine therapies such as acupuncture and moxibustion have demonstrated definite efficacy in treating AIDS-related diarrhea.In particular,warming needle moxibustion,with both the warming and tonifying effect of moxibustion and the mechanical effect of acupuncture at appropriate acupoints,can replenish qi and invigorate spleen,tonify kidney and assist yang,warm yang and disperse cold,arrest discharge and check diarrhea,dredge meridians and collaterals,and regulate qi,blood,and yin and yang of five-zang organs,thus improving the function of the body.This paper briefed the etiology and pathogenesis of spleen-stomach deficiency and spleen-kidney yang deficiency,two common syndromes of AIDS-related diarrhea that can be treated with warming needle moxibustion,aiming to provide a reference for the treatment of AIDS-related diarrhea with warming needle moxibustion in the future.
