To evaluate the efficacy of common Chinese patent medicines combined with common oral western hypoglycemic agents in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods:China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Chinese Science Citation Database(CSPD) and Chinese Citation Database(CCD),China Biology Medicine(CBM),PubMed,Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched from the establishment of the database to December 23,2020.After literature screening and data extraction according to inclusion and exclusion criteria as well as the evaluation of the risk of bias of included studies, different outcome indexes including fasting blood glucose,2 h postprandial blood glucose and HbA1c were analyzed by Meta-analysis for the comparison of the efficacy. Results:In terms of fasting blood glucose, seven Chinese patent medicines combined with oral western hypoglycemic agents were superior to oral western hypoglycemic agents alone, and Shenqi Jiangtang Granule combined with oral western hypoglycemic agents had more significant efficacy. In view of 2 h postprandial blood glucose, except Xiaoke Pill, the therapeutic effect of the other six Chinese patent medicines combined with oral western agents was better than that of oral western agents alone, and Shenqi Jiangtang Granule combined with oral western agents had the most significant efficacy.Except Shenqi Jiangtang Granule, the other six Chinese patent medicines combined with oral western agents excelled in HbA1c when compared with single oral western agents, among which Xiaoke Pill had the optimal efficacy. Conclusion:The seven Chinese patent medicines can improve fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose and HbA1c.Due to limited clinical trials, more rigorous and scientific clinical trials are needed to provide effective evidence for clinical treatment.
