The potential mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS) was reviewed from the perspectives of neurobiology,immunology and intestinal microbiology to further clarify the mechanisms through which acupuncture may alleviate CFS symptoms.It was found that CFS is a syndrome manifested by physical and mental fatigue,and acupuncture has promising efficacy in treating this disease.On this basis,the understanding of acupuncture for CFS was deepened in terms of acupoint specificity and acupoint combination.It suggested that there remain of uncertainties about the optimal treatment modality and duration of acupuncture for CFS,a emphasizing the need for enhanced research into these aspects in clinical studies.
