Alzheimer's disease(AD) is a progressive and incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects memory and other cognitive functions and interferes with normal life. The pathological features are closely related to the deposition of amyloid beta(Aβ) plaques, the formation of nerve fiber tangles, and the loss of neurons in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. At present, people have gradually realized that the alteration of the interaction between the brain-gut-microbiota axis has potential impacts on neurological diseases.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) theories, such as the theory of visceral outward manifestation, meridians and collaterals, all have views on the interconnection between brain and intestine.Based on the theory of TCM,the dialectical thinking of the brain-gut-microbiota axis was analyzed, and the current research progress of TCM in the treatment of AD was discussed, which provides new directions for the future development of TCM in the treatment of AD.
