Farfarae Flos(FF) was first recorded in the Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica(Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing).There are abundant records about the medicinal use of FF to resolve phlegm and relieve cough in the monographs and books of ancient Chinese materia medica.At present，there are many reviews on the original plant，producing areas，specifications，and grades of FF.However，few reviews have been published on the changes in the records of nature，flavor，and effects，as well as the ancient and modern applications.Nature and flavor are the core contents in the theory of the medicinal properties and serve as a basis for clinical application and compatibility of Chinese materia medica.In addition，there are a large number of prescriptions and applications involving FF in the ancient medical books，which are worthy of exploration.
