Constructing a typological hypothesis is a crucial step in building a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) evaluation system for personality.Based on the examination of constructing methods of personality dimension in modern psychology and traditional Chinese cultural theories on personality，this study proposed a TCM personality typology(dimension-typology) hypothesis according to the principles of yin-yang，the Five Elements，and the Eight Trigrams.This hypothesis suggested that there were similarities between the Big Five Personality Model and the ancient Chinese classification of personality and constitution based on the Five Elements.
