Liver-spleen disharmony is a common clinical syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),characterized by the dysfunction of the spleen in transportation and transformation and the liver in free flow of qi,which affects the body's water metabolism and leads to metabolic abnormalities such as the accumulation of phlegm and dampness. It is a key pathogenesis in the transition from a phlegm-dampness constitution to disease.Bile acids play a role in the enterohepatic circulation and have extensive regulatory effects on glucose and lipid metabolism in the body.By the investigation of bile acids as the material basis for the TCM theory of liver-spleen disharmony at a microscopic level, the scientific connotation of bile acid metabolism and liver-spleen disharmony can be revealed. This approach aims to provide a scientific explanation for the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders in individuals with a phlegm-dampness constitution from a new perspective. Moreover, regulating the bile acid profile through Chinese medicine can effectively improve the metabolic disorders induced by a phlegm-dampness constitution. This study expands the breadth and depth of TCM research on phlegm-dampness constitutions and provides new research directions and intervention targets for clinical regulation of phlegm-dampness.
