Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) demonstrates certain clinical advantages in the treatment of chronic renal failure.Existing guidelines for chronic renal failure are predominantly comprehensive integrated TCM and Western medicine guidelines. While these guidelines have been continuously updated, they still lack distinctive TCM features.Through a review and analysis of previously published TCM and integrated TCM and Western medicine standards for chronic renal failure, certain limitations have been identified. It is recommended to refine the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic renal failure in TCM,standardize syndrome differentiation and classification systems, increase evidence-based recommendations, improve efficacy evaluation, and establish standardized protocols for non-pharmacological and comprehensive TCM treatments.Furthermore, incorporating syndrome-based exercises and adding TCM guidance for the treatment of comorbidities/complications and dialysis in the final stage(stage 5) of chronic kidney disease(CKD) could provide insights for developing more comprehensive TCM diagnostic and treatment standards for chronic renal failure.
