To clarify the reasons for the origin and migration of the cultivation area of Sichuan Angelica dahurica in Suining and to study the impact of changes in soil texture during origin variation on the quality of Sichuan A.dahurica medicinal materials. Methods:Through literature review and field investigations, the cultivation environment, historical background, and recent developments of Sichuan A.dahurica were explored. The soil texture was analyzed by determining the proportions of sand, clay, and silt using a soil hydrometer, and classified according to international soil texture standards. The content of three coumarins(oxypeucedanin, imperatorin, and isoimperatorin) was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).The correlation between soil texture parameters(sand, clay, and silt proportions) and Sichuan A.dahurica quality indicators was explored using the grey relational analysis method. Results:The original cultivation area of Sichuan A.dahurica was mainly distributed around the Fujiang River basin, with a cultivation history of several hundred years. In recent years, due to various factors, the cultivation area has significantly decreased, and new planting sites have migrated to hilly and sloped regions. The soil texture varied significantly across different towns, with loam soils predominantly found around the Fujiang River basin, while clay soils were more common in hilly and sloped areas. In Yuzhou Village(CBZ-1) and Honglong Village(CBZ-4),the main roots of the medicinal material were long with fewer lateral roots, but the content of coumarins was relatively low.In Taiyi Town(CBZ-5) and Yujian Village(CBZ-6),the opposite pattern was observed. The grey relational analysis showed a significant correlation between soil texture parameters, the physical traits of the medicinal materials, and coumarin content. The silt proportion had the highest correlation with the quality indicators of Sichuan A.dahurica(correlation>0.600),followed by clay.Oxypeucedanin had the strongest correlation with main root length, weight, and diameter(correlation>0.700),while imperatorin and isoimperatorin had slightly lower correlations. Conclusion:The cultivation area of Sichuan A.dahurica in Suining is undergoing migration, with significant changes in soil texture that have a clear impact on the quality of the medicinal materials.Soil texture is an important factor to consider during the migration process.
