The theory of opening,closing,and pivot originated from the Huangdi's Internal Classic(Huang Di Nei Jing) and has been highly regarded by physicians throughout history.This study summarizes the research achievements of representative ancient physicians on this theory since the time of the Huangdi's Internal Classic.Based on literature research,it also delves into the modern scholars' expansion of this theory.Through a comprehensive analysis of the literature,the conclusion is drawn that the opening,closing,and pivot theory emphasizes a holistic view and combines the opening,closing,and pivot functions of the six meridians with the qi transformation functions of the organs.This theory provides a clear explanation of disease mechanisms,guides clinical medication,and has been widely applied in the study of the mechanisms of classical formulas.
