An in-depth analysis of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) master HAN Mingxiang's approach to the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) is presented，focusing on his methods of syndrome differentiation，treatment principles，selection of formulas，and medication characteristics.Professor HAN's experience and characteristics in the treatment of COPD based on Xin'an root-consolidating and original qi-banking theory were summarized.Professor HAN，guided by the Xin'an root-consolidating and original qi-banking theory，has creatively proposed the concept of “grading and staging of lung qi deficiency syndrome” and used this framework to understand the changes in the syndromes of COPD.From the perspective of “qi deficiency，phlegm and fluid retention，and blood stasis”，he analyzes the pathogenesis of COPD.His treatment approach follows the principle of “consolidating the root and eliminating the excess”，taking into account the unique onset characteristics of both exterior and interior manifestations of COPD.By analyzing Professor HAN's treatment process for COPD，it becomes evident that he excels in using methods to tonify the spleen and kidney，regulate the lung to consolidate the root，replenish qi，activate blood，resolve phlegm to eliminate the root cause，and ventilate lung and relieve exterior to expel the pathogen.His flexible use of individualized prescriptions according to the changing syndromes yields definite therapeutic effects with distinct characteristics，providing valuable clinical insights for reference.
