Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) is a common reproductive and metabolic disorder that severely affects the health of women of reproductive age.Monomers from Chinese herbal medicines are natural organic compounds extracted from traditional Chinese herbs, and they possess multiple biological activities.Recent studies have shown that flavonoid monomers from Chinese herbal medicines exert anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,immune-enhancing,and hormone-regulating effects by modulating several signaling pathways involved in PCOS,including phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/AKT),Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK/STAT),AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK),mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK),and nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB).Additionally,flavonoid monomers from Chinese herbal medicines can alleviate insulin resistance, improve glucose and lipid metabolism, and reduce ovarian inflammation and fibrosis, thus achieving therapeutic effects on PCOS and its complications.
