Abstract:Diabetic wound healing is delayed, with long treatment cycles, and traditional debridement and dressing changes often fail to meet clinical needs.Natural Chinese medicines characterized by “drug-excipient unification”,which combine both “active pharmaceutical substances” and “gel-forming excipients”,offer promising solutions.Chinese medicine hydrogels, with their water-retention properties, wound protection, and drug delivery capabilities for sustained release, provide a moist healing environment. They promote wound healing through various mechanisms, including antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,antioxidant actions, and stimulation of angiogenesis. This article systematically reviews the design of Chinese medicine hydrogels with “drug-excipient unification” characteristics and its effects in promoting diabetic wound healing, offering insights for the development and application of new dosage forms of Chinese medicinal herbs.
