Chronic prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and erectile dysfunction have become three major and prevalent andrological disorders that significantly affect the quality of life of Chinese men.Eight Liao acupoints, located in the sacral region, are connected to the kidney and bladder meridians and intersect with the thoroughfare, conception, and governor vessels. Therefore, acupuncture and moxibustion at eight Liao acupoints can regulate both the kidney and bladder meridians as well as harmonize the qi and blood of the thoroughfare, conception, and governor vessels, making it effective in treating male reproductive system disorders.Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture and moxibustion at the eight Liao acupoints can significantly alleviate symptoms of andrological conditions and improve patients' quality of life.A review of recent studies in China and abroad on the pathogenesis of andrological diseases and acupuncture treatment at the eight Liao acupoints suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion at the eight Liao acupoints may work through sacral nerve signal transduction to increase intracavernosal pressure, contract prostatic smooth muscle, and activate the sacral micturition center.Additionally,it may exert therapeutic effects by regulating inflammatory mediators, inhibiting immune responses, activating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, and improving hemorheology in the reproductive system.Although notable progress has been made in clinical and mechanistic research on acupuncture and moxibustion at the eight Liao acupoints for andrological diseases, the mechanisms in treating andrological diseases remain to be further explored. This is expected to provide experimental evidence and theoretical support for identifying more specific and effective therapeutic targets, thereby promoting the broader clinical application of eight Liao acupoints in male reproductive system disorders
