Recurrent spontaneous abortion(RSA) is an autoimmune disease with an increasing incidence as well as complex pathogenesis and mechanisms.The pregnancy immune imbalance of helper T cell 17(Th17)/regulatory T cells(Treg) is an important cause of RSA.In the Th17/Treg balance，the proportion of Th17 and its related cytokines increases，and the Th17/Treg balance tends to Th17，which will induce maternal immune tolerance dysfunction and immune inflammation，leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes such as implantation rejection and pregnancy dysfunction.Due to unclear pathogenesis，the early diagnosis and treatment of RSA are difficult.Currently，Western medicine conducts empirical treatment using various strategies，but its clinical efficacy is not ideal.In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)，RSA falls in the scope of “habitual abortion”.TCM emphasizes the preventive treatment of insufficiency，nourishing the kidney and spleen，as well as invigorating qi and nourishing blood.In animal experiments，TCM has improved the decidual tissue morphology and the blood supply of pregnant mice by regulating the Th17/Treg balance，as well as increasing the uterine net weight to treat RAS.Additionally，many clinical trials have proven that TCM，with its advantages of multi-target，multi-pathway，and low toxicity，can regulate the Th17/Treg balance，and improve the uterine lining thickness and hormone levels to reduce the RSA rate.Therefore，TCM can increase the Treg cell levels，reduce the Th17 cell levels，and regulate the Th17/Treg balance in RSA patients，improving the clinical pregnancy rate.
