Exogenous acute febrile diseases can be caused by many pathogenic factors via various complicated mechanisms. Analyzed in the article were mechanism features of the disease that the pathogenic toxin was a leading cause, and coexistence and interconnection of toxin and phlegm was the key. Also discussed were the therapeutic thoughts and methods of Chinese medicine for the disease. As summarized in principal therapeutic methods which include heat clearing-and toxin-removing, exterior-releasing and pathogen-expelling, qi-replenishing and yin-nourishing, and diverse flexible therapeutic tools such as various dosage forms and acupuncture and moxibustion, etc.
