Abstract:It has long been realized by ancient physicians that the complex human vital functions, occurrence, progress and transformation of diseases depended on functional changes of zang-fu organs. Taken zang-fu organs as the core, visceral manifestation theories were founded on disease location, diagnosis, and discourse on treatment. They are considered, by application throughout the whole medical practice process, as one of the essential branch of TCM theories, and the theoretical foundation for syndrome differentiation. An analogy of zang-fu vital functions according to division of functions, and systematic conclusions on syndromes are provided by visceral manifestation theories. However, some conclusions are contrary to functions of brain central nerves. For a more scientific and modern Chinese medicine, it is necessary to adhere to the rule of double negatives of Marxism. With an open corrective approach, the viscera manifestation theories will be enriched and perfected to develop on a higher level, contributing greater to human kind.
