The literature review of Huangqin Qingfei Decoction regarding its chemical composition and pharmacological activity provide the basis for clinical research and application. Methods: We made reference to recently published literature on Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) and Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae). Results: There had been intensive research on Huangqin and Zhizi separately， but little attention was paid to combined usage in terms of changes of chemical composition and its pharmacological activity. Conclusion: Huangqin Qingfei Decoction requires further modern research.
