Collaterals is an important part of the meridian system. By reviewing literatures, this paper explores the connotation of collaterals from the perspective of acupuncture to clearly indicate the collaterals’ concept, structure categories, distribution on body, pathological changes and acupuncture treatment field. It is expected to promote the development of collateral pathology and meanwhile improve its clinical therapy standard accordingly.
