Brassica is a genus of plants in the mustard family (Brassicaceae).The plants of the genus,such as Brassica rapa,has a long history of medicine-food homology in the Mongol nationality,Uyghur nationality and Qiang ethnic minority.The literature researches demonstrated that Brassica vegetables can be used to cure oppression in chest,qi stagnation,syndrome of incoordination between spleen and stomach,removing toxic substance,and so on.Brassica,a kind of ethnodrug,is of great reach value.Resent pharmacological studies indicate that Brassica has a large number of active ingredients.It has the effects of anti-tumor,anti-aging,radiation protection and regulating immune.There have been many domestic and overseas researches on the bioavailability of Brassica vegetables before several years.However,recently,there are few reports about this.The situation indicates that the study of Brassica vegetables makes slow progress.This paper focuses on the effects of Brassica in gastrointestinal tract,including resistance to gastrointestinal cancer,enhancing immunity to the gastrointestinal tract,promoting gastric dynamics,and so on.Finally,the future development of Brassica vegetables is prospected.
