Abstract:To assess the clinical effect of acupuncture and auricular points pressed with thumbtack needle and wax therapy in treating peripheral facial nervous paralysis. Methods:A hundred patients with peripheral facial nervous paralysis were randomized into a control group and a treatment group, with 50 in each. The control group received shallow needling in acute stage (within 7 days) and acupuncture with point joining in recovery stage (over 8 days). The treatment group received auricular points pressed with thumbtack needle and wax therapy on the basis of the control group. The two groups treated once a day and 10 days for a treatment session. The treatment effects were assessed after 2 treatment sessions. Results:The cured cases are 21,effective cases 17,improved cases 12,and no invalid case in the treatment group. So the cure and effective rate is 76.0%.In the control group, there are 15 cases cured,11 effective,23 improved, and 1 invalid. The cure and effective rate is 52.0%.The differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture and auricular points pressed with thumbtack needle and wax therapy have obvious curative effect and high safety in treating peripheral facial nervous paralysis, which is worthy of further clinical application.
