Each medicinal plant has its own unique habitat.With the increasing demand of plant medicine in the world，it is of great significance to guide the cultivation of medicinal materials by the Geographic Information System for Global Medicinal Plants (GMPGIS).Here，we discussed the research background and development history of eco-suitability regionalization of medicinal plants combined with the existing achievements of ecological suitability regionalization in the field of medicinal plants and agricultural cultivation.Additionally，we summarized the research methods and content.Moreover，the research direction of medicinal plants eco-suitability in the future and research strategy were prospected.The eco-suitable analysis of globalization，precision and high quality of medicinal plants can provide scientific basis for rational division and good agricultural practice (GAP).
