Abstract:To investigate the curative effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) gargle in oral cavity of critically ill patients of neurology. Methods:A total of 82 critically ill patients with neurological treated in Department of Critical Medicine in Puren Hospital of Wuhan from September 2016 to September 2017 were selected and divided into observation group (n=42) and control group (n=40) according to random table method. The control group was given 0.9% sodium chloride solution rinse water, and the observation group was given TCM gargle (the main ingredients were Radix Rehmanniae Recens,Radix Scrophulariae,Radix Ophiopogonis,Radix Glehniae,Rhizoma Coptidis,Radix Sophorae Flavescentis,Radix Ilicis Asprellae,Herba GynoStemmae Pentaphilli).Oral bacterial colonies and the incidence of oral-related diseases in both groups were observed. Results:There was no significant difference in the number of bacterial colonies in both groups before and after treatment (P>0.05).The number of bacterial colonies in the oral cavity before and after treatment in both groups significantly decreased, which had statistical significance (P<0.05).The observation group was significantly better than the control group in improving the number of bacterial colonies in the oral cavity (P<0.05).The incidence of oral malodor and oral ulcer in the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05).Although the incidence of dry fracture of the mouth and pulmonary infection in observation group was lower than that of the control group, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusion:TCM gargle can inhibit oral bacteria growth, and it is effective in the prevention and treatment of critical patients with neurological disorders of oral odor, which is worth promoting.
